Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy Hires ACLU Strategist Sondra Goldschein as Executive Director

Goldschein Previously Worked at the American Civil Liberties Union for Over 20 Years, Most Recently as Deputy Director and Director of Program and Strategy of the Affiliate Support and Nationwide Initiatives Department

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy (CFFE) announced that Sondra Goldschein, a 20-year veteran of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), has joined CFFE as the organization’s first executive director. CFFE is a campaign to build grassroots support for the economic policies that families need to thrive, including paid family and medical leave and affordable elder and childcare. CFFE is currently active in Arizona, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Goldschein is an expert in developing and executing nationwide, state based campaigns to advance policy change. Most recently, Goldschein served as the ACLU’s Director of Program and Strategy and Deputy Director of the Affiliate Support and Nationwide Initiatives Department. In this role, she worked with the ACLU’s 54 affiliates to achieve high-impact civil rights and liberties wins by building program capacity and organizational power.

Previously, Goldschein was the ACLU’s Director of Advocacy and Policy and Deputy National Political Director. In these roles, she led a team of strategists advancing ambitious goals such as marriage equality, repeal of the death penalty, criminal justice reform, voting access, and disrupting the deportation pipeline. While at the ACLU, Goldschein also served as the Director of State Advocacy for the Reproductive Freedom Project where she designed defensive strategies for affiliates and their coalition partners facing attacks on abortion, contraception, and comprehensive sex education.

“I am thrilled that Sondra has joined the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy as our first executive director,” said Karen Hicks, Senior Advisor to the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy. “Sondra is a seasoned political strategist, as her decades of experience at the American Civil Liberties Union make clear. With Sondra’s leadership, we will continue to deploy strategic and effective programs in key states to build support for the policies families are telling us they need to thrive, including paid family and medical leave and affordable elder and childcare.”

Goldschein will also serve as Executive Director of the Family Friendly Action PAC, which focuses on electing candidates who support paid family and medical leave and affordable elder and childcare. As previously announced, the Family Friendly Action PAC will be active in the U.S. Senate races in Pennsylvania and Arizona this year, as well as other states.

In 2020, the Family Friendly Action PAC spent almost $18 million on a voter contact program in support of Joe Biden and U.S. Senate candidates that spanned Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine, Iowa, Montana, Virginia, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Georgia. This program utilized robust field, mail and digital investments to make nearly 16 million voter contact attempts. The program engaged voters who were persuadable based on a family economic message that emphasized the care issues families struggle with on a daily basis, including paid family and medical leave and affordable elder and childcare.
